Just as the world was going into shut down mode and people started living off food delivery and spent all day in their pajamas, I reviewed the six-cylinder Toyota Supra (refer to this review for more details on interior, exterior and driving dynamics). I loved its modern, sporty looks. I enjoyed its updated and simple interior. But what I loved most was how it performed.
This Supra is equipped with a 2.0 L Twin-scroll Turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine producing 255 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels.
Ok sure, the 6-cyl Supra has more horsepower and torque as well as a faster 0-60 time, but something the 6-cylinder also has that the 4-cylinder doesn’t is an extra 219 pounds. That’s quite a lot! Especially when you think in terms of a tiny sports car, such as the Supra. It’s not as if I really felt the weight difference per say, but if we’re marketing towards a hardcore sports car buyer, that’s a huge plus and attraction.
The power difference was noticeable, but not to the point of me saying “this thing’s slow.” Never said that. Not once. I loved it from start up to handing the keys back. It wants to slide just as much as the six-cylinder and makes great noises out the back.
Honestly, if price is a big reason why you’d consider a 2.0 L over a 3.0 L, you don’t have to be embarrassed to share with your friends how many cylinders you have under the hood. I would seriously be happy with either car. And I’d be getting slightly better fuel economy as just an added bonus!
I love this thing.
