The night before automakers from around the world unveiled new cars and concepts to the automotive press, Mazda held a special reveal party at Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles, CA.
Amidst the free food and drink, Mazda showed off the new fourth generation MX-5 Miata with a short design talk by designer Derek Jenkins. If you’re interested in a design walk around of the new Miata, check out a video I shot from another event a while back here, and below are a few photos of the new Miata.
Mazda also gave attending media a special early look at an all-new model, the Mazda CX-3 Compact Crossover SUV. The CX-3 is the fifth model in Mazda’s line-up of new-generation vehicles that feature SKYACTIV Technology. North America will receive a SKYACTIV-G 2.0 L gasoline engine, which is accompanied by Mazda’s new-generation AWD system. The CX-3 will offer a wide range of Mazda’s latest technologies including the Mazda Connect infotainment system and i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety features all while seating up to five occupants.
Take a look at the below video for more on the design elements of the CX-3 plus a video on the reveal at the LA Auto Show:
Mazda’s display at the LA Auto Show featured the same cars as the party the night before, with the exception of the MX-5 Cup Car (check out a few images below).
While Mazda has yet to release full and official specs on the Cup Car, it has been stated that the car will be equipped with a 2.0 L SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder engine. There will be multiple cars all identically prepared that will race in the Mazda Global MX-5 Cup series.
I’ve covered the fourth generation MX-5 production car several times, but did manage to shoot a quick walk around video of beautiful pearl white MX-5.
A lot of exciting things are happening at Mazda and I can’t wait to see just how well this new generation Miata sells in addition to the all-new CX-3.
