Just a few weeks ago I took a trip to Colorado to help take photos for Jackson Racing. Jackson Racing planned on testing the turbo they developed specifically and exclusively for the Honda Talon side by side in a high-elevation environment. If you are unfamiliar with side by sides or maybe just the Talon itself I suggest you click here and here to get more familiar.
The Talon is a sports side by side that is meant to not only tackle desert terrain but also mountain trails with anything from rocks to mud (and more) thanks to its I-4WD technology and six-speed dual clutch transmission. The Talon comes in two and four-seat variants and Jackson Racing has developed and will sell the turbo charger for the Honda Talon exclusively.
I needed a vehicle to drive to Ouray Colorado, around and back. One that could haul a lot of stuff, that was comfortable with a large gas tank and that could fit four people comfortably. Luckily a 2019 Ford F150 was available and so we took off.
This F150 is equipped with a 2.7 L Ecoboost V6 engine producing 325 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with four-wheel drive. The exterior is finished in Velocity Blue with a grey cloth interior.
The F150 definitely passed the test in terms of comfort and ride quality. The seats offered plenty of support for the long drive. The cabin was also nice and quiet which made it easy to listen to podcasts and music on the way there and back. Apple CarPlay was, as expected, easy to use and made finding stops off the beaten path easy to get to. Having so many USB charging options made keeping all our devices ready to go even when we were on the road.
Amenities inside the truck ranged from heated seats to a plethora of cup holders and storage areas. The large sun roof that practically opened the entire roof up was nice to have at night to see the clear starry Colorado sky. When we needed to put people in the back seats there was more than enough leg room and when no one was sitting in back all of our gear fit perfect well without issue.
While the tank was large, we did end up filling up quite a bit. The best fuel economy we got was around 21 MPG and that was mostly staying in normal or comfort mode with very little time spent in sport mode.
The 2019 Ford F150 4X4 Supercrew overall provided exactly what we needed for the trip to Ouray Colorado to test the side by sides.
